The Bahamas, officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is an independent, sovereign, English-speaking country consisting of two thousand cays and seven hundred tropical islands that form an archipelago. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of the United States; north of Cuba, Hispaniola (Dominican Republic & Haiti) and the Caribbean Sea; and northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Its size is almost 14,000 km² with an estimated population of 330,000. Its capital is Nassau. It remains a Commonwealth realm.
Nassau, is the capital city, found on New Providence Island and two bridges conveniently link neighboring Paradise Island and its 685 acres of extraordinary beauty. This bustling island pair offers a mixture of attractions, fine dining, fresh fish markets, water sports and boutique shopping. Grand Bahama Island isn’t a place you simply visit. Another is Grand Bahama Tropical Island. Here, you’ll find an entire island with endless ecological wonders begging to be explored. From one of the world’s longest underwater limestone cave systems to rare flowers to Gold Rock Beach—the only place you can see all six of our islands’ ecosystems—there is so much to do. The hard part is deciding what to explore first :) Next, The Out Islands. Give new meaning to getting away. In addition to Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island, there are 698 other islands that make up The Islands Of The Bahamas. These secluded islands are home to some of the world’s most amazing beaches, dive sites and fishing sites. Here, nature easily outnumbers man. So if you’re looking to travel off the beaten path, escape to one of The Out Islands.
